Allison/Aquatic Accident Sessions

by Handshake Squad

Somewhere around the fall of 2007 the four members of Handshake Squad (Devon Brady, Joel Brown, Robert Constable, and David Rogers) entered Tampa's Springs Theater along with engineer and owner John Stephan to record a series of songs about women named Allison, as well as another series of short studies on death and injury in the water (these songs adhered to a rigid set of guidelines - the accident or injury must have occurred in the water, the song must be a minute or less in length, the song and its title must contain the main character's name, and the song must end in the word "yeah"). As with any rule, there are plenty of exceptions. What resulted were three "Allisons" and eight "aquatic accidents" along with a handful of other originals, semi-originals, and covers.  Tracking later moved to Constable's house, where innumerable vocal takes were agonized over and rough mixing was begun. Sadly, the album was never finished in its entirety, and it has languished mostly on the hard drives of Handshake Squad's members for the last decade.

I've taken it upon myself to put these recordings out there (with all their flaws), so that these songs can finally be heard. These recordings contain all of the things that comprised almost any Handshake Squad performance: out of tune guitars, unsteady vocals, out of time drums, and more than a few flubbed notes. Whatever. It's time that they saw the light of day. Enjoy.
